Title leaf printed in red and black. Cont. vellum with title-label on spine and super ex libris (?!) on both boards (closed crown and sceptre). Boards slightly standing out stiffly. Partly cracked in inner front hinge. Minor foxing. Minor tears and turned-down corners in a few leaves. Several initials, names and stamps. * Phædrus (c. 15 BC- c. 50 AD) was probably a Thracian slave and a Roman fabulist from Macedonia. He is recognized as the first writer to Latinize entire books of fables, retelling in iambic metre the Greek prose Aesopic tales. This edition is edited and have comments by the dutch philologist Petrus Burman (1668-1741) and others (See: Brunet IV, 588; "La meilleure édition de Phèdre qui eût paru jusqu'alors.
